French artist Fabien Mérelle created this awesome sculpture, entitled Pentateuque, using resin along with paint, hair and fabric.

The animated sculpture depicts a man withstanding the weight of an elephant - a translation of an illustration by the same artist into three dimensional volume lightheartedly referencing the maxim ‘to have the weight on one’s shoulders.’

Pentateuque is currently on display at the Art Stage Singapore exhibition at the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore.

Reservoir Vlogs
I was watching Reservoir Dogs for the first time in a while, and I forgot how great this film is, and when it comes to films I like, I just go into a deep-thought process about it afterwards. Then an idea sprang about the colours they use and all of a sudden I went “There’s no Mr. Green! How epic would it be to see John and Hank as Mr. Green?” So then I sprang to my computer and tried to a make a Vlogbrothers-based Reservoir Dogs design based on the iconic poster, all from scratch. A few hours later and voilà! I’m quite pleased with how this turned out as we usually see unique Vlogbrothers designs but not so many crossovers into other iconic images and themes, but if there any out there, I’d like to see them. Enjoy! :)

Science + Art = Awesome.

Using Sharpie markers and acrylic latex, artist Danny Quirk is currently working on a series of anatomical illustrations rendered directly onto the bodies of live humans. Danny has previously created anatomical illustrations for scientific publications, but this series gives the viewer a much more vivid sense of what’s going on underneath our skin.

Follow Danny’s progress over on Facebook or here on Tumblr and check out some of his two-dimensional anatomical art on Etsy.

Even monsters go through an awkward adolescent period. Just take a look at this awesome illustration, entitled Movie Monster High 1986 Yearbook, created as a t-shirt design by thegreck. Jason Voorhees probably had acne under that mask and even Jaws had braces.

Artist Jodi Harvey-Brown transforms books into elaborate sculptures depicting characters and scenes from the stories printed on their pages. It’s as though the stories are literally emerging from the books.

“Every scene is handmade and Harvey-Brown protects the final product with a UV finish. Her pieces feature every kind of story imaginable, including the Millennium Falcon ready to soar out of the pages of Star Wars Heir to the Empire; Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn sailing along the surface of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer; and Harry Potter, Hermione, and Ron standing, wands posed, atop The Deathly Hollows.”

Jodi Harvey-Brown recently created a series of Christmas tree book sculptures available via her Etsy shop.

These awesomely tiny and incredibly intricate violins are made by Scottish miniaturist David Edwards. The 1/12 scale violins measure a mere 1.5 inches long and are modeled after Stradivarius violins. It takes David a few months to make to make a single miniature violin. Head over to the BBC to view photos of his process.

“Edwards quit a career as a classical musician in 1983 in order to become a full time miniaturist. In addition to the violins he makes all manner of miniature handmade household goods. Edwards is now 76 years old and has “reduced” his daily work schedule to 7 to 8 hours.”
